Regulatory update

NIB in Ghana

Regulatory status and future directory of Bank of Ghana–licensed Non-Interest Banking institutions.

Current regulatory status

The Bank of Ghana published its Non-Interest Banking guidelines in January 2026. The framework allows for full-fledged non-interest banks or NIB "windows" within existing banks. On 18 August 2026 the BoG inaugurated the Non-Interest Financial Advisory Council (NIFAC) to advise on governance, regulation, and supervision of the sector. At least one indigenous bank has formally applied for a licence; others are preparing. As of August 2026, no NIB licence has been gazetted. NIB services will be based on non-interest principles and, according to the Bank of Ghana, will be open to all — not restricted by religion.

This directory will list BoG-licensed NIB institutions once they are gazetted. Until then, we do not name or imply that any specific bank has applied or been approved.
