We are registered as a Data Controller with the Ghana Data Protection Commission where required by law.

2. What Data We Collect
Data You Provide Directly
- Email address — Newsletter signup, contact forms (sending newsletter, responding to enquiries)
- Language preference (EN/FR) — Newsletter signup (sending correct language newsletter)
- Content you submit — "Submit Your Bank" form (platform directory updates)
Data Collected Automatically
- Page views (path and date only) — We use a simple, self-hosted traffic counter stored in our own database. No cookies, no third-party analytics, no personal identifiers. Used only to understand which pages are visited in aggregate.
- If we add third-party analytics later — We will update this policy and, where required by law, obtain your consent before loading such tools.
Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect payment card information, government ID, financial account numbers, health information, or data about children under 13.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
For users in the European Union or European Economic Area: newsletter sending is based on consent; our self-hosted page view counts are based on legitimate interests (minimal data, no PII); responding to enquiries on legitimate interests; processing submitted content on consent.
4. How We Use Your Data
Newsletter: Your email is used to send the Ethika Finance newsletter and related educational updates. We may use Brevo to manage email communications.
Traffic counts: We record which pages are viewed (path and date only) in our own database. This helps us understand usage in aggregate and improve the platform. No cookies or third-party analytics are used for this.
Enquiries: If you contact us by email, we use your contact details to respond.
Platform improvement: We may use anonymised, aggregated data for statistics. Individual users are never identified in such reports.
5. Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties.
We may use third-party services that process data on our behalf (e.g. Brevo for email, Supabase for database and our self-hosted page view storage, Vercel for hosting). All are bound by data processing agreements. Data transfers outside Ghana/EU are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
6. Data Retention
- Newsletter subscriber data — Until you unsubscribe + 2 years (suppression list)
- Email enquiries — 2 years from date of correspondence
- Page view counts (path and date) — Up to 25 months, then aggregated or deleted
- Submitted bank/content data — Until removed from the Platform
When retention periods expire, data is deleted or anonymised.
7. Your Rights
Under the Ghana Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) and, where applicable, GDPR:
- Right to access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Right to correction — Request we correct inaccurate data
- Right to deletion — Request we delete your data (we will comply unless we have a legal obligation to retain it)
- Right to withdraw consent — Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time
- Right to object — Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Right to data portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format
To exercise any right: Email privacy@ethikawestafrica.com with the subject line "Data Rights Request". We will respond within 21 days (Ghana DPA) or 30 days (GDPR).
To complain: Ghana Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.org.gh); EU users may contact their national data protection supervisory authority.
8. Cookies
We do not use cookies for our current traffic counting (page views are recorded without any cookie or identifier). If we introduce cookies in the future (e.g. for language preference or optional analytics), we will update this section and obtain consent where required. You can manage cookies in your browser settings at any time.
9. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures: SSL/TLS encryption (HTTPS), secure access-controlled database (Supabase with Row Level Security), limited staff access to personal data. No method of internet transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we take our obligations seriously.
10. Children's Privacy
The Platform is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@ethikawestafrica.com and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy periodically. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date and may notify newsletter subscribers of material changes via email.
